One of Britain’s most inventive songwriters, Ed Harcourt returns with Orphic, a haunting, introspective collection born in the quiet depths of winter. Written and recorded in a burst of creative isolation at his studio, The Wolf Cabin, the album captures Harcourt at his most vulnerable and visceral.

“January is a brutal, deceptive month for Englanders,” he reflects. “This year, I decided to not have any resolutions other than hibernate in my studio… after about four weeks of scribbling, jumping from piano to guitar, and babbling like a madman into my phone, I emerged into the more forgiving month of February 2025 with this record, Orphic.”

A more somber and quieter affair for Harcourt, this album marks a new chapter. The title draws inspiration from Jean Cocteau’s Orphée and the mythic notion of creation “beyond otherworldly understanding.” The result is a body of work that feels both intimate and transcendent featuring meditations in minor keys that wander through mystery, melancholy, and light.
