3. Album Introduction
“Masquerade in the Underground” is an immersive album and multi-media experience that puts you, the listener, at the epicenter of a dark fairytale in the form of a rock odyssey.
In faerie folklore over hundreds of years, magical stories and cautionary tales have been told and passed down from generation to generation about the mercurial fae spiriting humans away into the realm of Faerie, often never to return. Rock artist Raven Quinn weaves just such a tale on her forthcoming concept album “Masquerade in the Underground”.
The narrative is expressed through a mixture of brand new original music, specifically selected cover songs, and spoken storytelling, but with an unusual twist: rather than being told from the traditional human point of view, the storyline of “Masquerade in the Underground” is revealed from the perspective of an ancient faerie queen with a penchant for admiring (and ultimately collecting) “Othered” humans for her eternal Masquerade Ball.
“Masquerade in the Underground” marks the return of Quinn’s longtime collaborator, Juno award winning and Grammy nominated producer, engineer, and song-writer Dan Brodbeck (Dolores O’Riordan, The Cranberries) for their most ambitious musical partnership yet.
Quinn says the creative approach to realizing such a sprawling concept was, “to imagine this album as if it were a carefully compiled film soundtrack. Each song, whether it be a new original or a cover, was either specifically written or thoughtfully selected to express a chapter in the story that has been playing out in my head for years.”
As the listener, you’ll experience the album as if the Queen’s gaze has fallen upon you. Her fascination is palpable and the hypnotic pull into her nighttime world is difficult to withstand…
So prepare yourself. The doors to the masquerade have opened and your journey into the Underground is about to begin.
4. Track List
- Origins
“Origins” is the foundation and beating heart of “Masquerade in the Underground”. The track serves as both a love letter and spoken introduction directly from the album’s narrator, the mysterious Fae Queen.

- Masquerade
After several nights of barely-remembered dreams featuring a mysterious raven-haired woman, a magical and ancient door materializes beneath your bed just after the witching hour.
It leads you down a stone staircase, through cavern and into a forest, towards a large mirror floating in mid-air. You reach out to gently touch the mirror, and it ripples like water. You recoil in surprise, but decide to touch it once more; reaching into the cool liquid-like surface. You realize that this too, is a doorway. You gather your courage and step into the mirror.
The mirror has lead you to yet at another entrance: massive, ancient, ornately carved doors. The doors creak slowly open. As you peer within, the most ethereal, beautiful, otherworldly place you’ve ever beheld comes into focus…an opulent masquerade ball.
But before you can take another step forward, a contract appears out of thin air, levitating just in front of you. The price of admission to this masquerade? Only unfettered access to your dreams. You may freely enter the masquerade and partake in all of the magic it has to offer, and in turn…its Queen shall be granted full access to your dreams. A simple enough bargain, you decide. Access to one dream world in exchange for access to another seems fair enough.
This is ALL clearly a dream anyway, isn’t it?
You sign your name with a quill made of a large blue-black raven’s feather that has suddenly appeared in your hand. The contract disappears, and you’re propelled inside the doors by an unseen force.
Everywhere you look, there are otherworldly beings dancing in the glow of flickering candlelight, and strange beauty the likes of which you’ve never beheld as a mortal. You feel a mix of emotions: exhilaration, awe, fear, and even an odd sense of familiarity, although you’ve never set foot in this place before now.
You glance up, and on a platform sits a decrepit throne overgrown with branches and leaves. Seated on it, you see the woman from the bizarre dreams you’ve been having lately…
This is the Queen of the Fae.
As you lock eyes with her, you hear a feminine voice echo within your mind. Her voice. She calls you by name. And then, her voice almost whispers, “Welcome to the Masquerade in the Underground.”

- The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning
As you find yourself apprehensive to embrace this strange new reality of the fae and their world of the Masquerade in the Underground, the Queen implores you to ask yourself honestly which world you feel you truly belong in - this one, or your own?
She believes you already know the answer: all of the qualities that made you feel “strange” or disconnected within your mortal life are exactly what lead you to her. She believes you’re here because it’s where you’re meant to be.
Still, you must examine the truth locked away within the innermost corridors of your heart and mind to decide where you belong…
Composed & Arranged by William Patrick Corgan

- Another Moment
Time has passed, and you more openly examine the infinite possibilities this new reality holds.
Meanwhile, the Queen’s affection for you is clearly deepening. However, a mortal can only survive for so long in this immortal world without accepting a permanent transformation…
What would you do if you were given the opportunity to live forever?
Composed & Arranged by HYDE, WZRD BLD

- It’s No Good
The Fae Queen is powerful, charismatic, and can be gracious, but she is also a mercurial creature that is not to be trifled with. What she wants, she’s accustomed to getting, and she has decided she wants you to stay here, with her. Forever.
However, she is patient. She has all the time in the world, after-all. A human’s pesky attachment to their own mortality can be frustrating for an immortal being, but she feels the strength of the connection you have to one another. You’ll certainly come around…eventually.

- The Killing Moon
The Queen’s domain and kingdom within the Underground is located within the realm of dreams, and as such, her kingdom is forever shrouded in night and eternal moonlight. As she has free access to your dreams, she often chooses to exert her influence or to converse with you through in the dreamworld - as the dream state is often infinitely more vulnerable and personal for mortals.
Tonight, she aims to enter your dreams to offer herself and her world to you, the object of her affection and obsession. After you’ve slipped
into a deep sleep, she appears bathed in moonlight to your dreaming consciousness - one of many attempts to seduce your heart.
“Under blue moon, I saw you…so soon you’ll take me…”

- Mine
“Mine” is both a peek into the Queen’s deep level of infatuation and growing desperation to keep you by her side, and ultimately the epic moment she’s been waiting for: your decision.
You’ve decided to accept her offer of immortality and to stay with her forever in the Masquerade in the Underground. She presents you with your own gorgeous and intricate mask, symbolizing your bond with her and the beginning of your new eternal life.

- Underground
You have chosen your fate, accepted your mask, and now you and your queen stand side by side as Fae - forever bonded in the Underground. Tonight is the first night in your new immortal body, and as the Queen’s new consort. This is cause for massive bonfire celebrations throughout the realm and within the royal court of the Masquerade. As you lose yourself to the beat of the music and to the faerie wine, your queen pulls you away with her into the night.
